## The Breakdown

Neurosomatic Therapy, called NST for short, is a type of corrective manual therapy that treats all soft tissue to influence changes in posture. It is an integrated whole body approach that aims to understand the structure first, then correct what is causing dysfunction.

## The Emphasis On Posture

Posture is the way that we hold ourselves in various planes of movement, standing, and sitting. The body spends a lot of energy holding us in our postural patterns and it spends even more energy to hold us in dysfunctional postural patterns.

The reason why NST is so effective is because it utilizes the idea that muscles move bones. When our bodies develop dysfunctional posture, it creates compensation patterns throughout the system which eventually shows up as muscle imbalances. Overtime, unaddressed dysfunctional compensation patterns lead to muscle imbalances which ultimately result in chronic pain.

## NST & Massage Therapy

Neurosomatic Therapy is often thought of as a specialized type of Massage Therapy. Although it does incorporate various massage techniques for treatment, the two are different in terms of what to expect treatment wise. Massage Therapy can be a very powerful tool for many people and is often used for relaxation purposes. Neurosomatic Therapy is also a powerful tool, and is used for targeting the deeper root causes that are creating the stress, tension, and pain in the first place. Both modalities are incredibly powerful, but the main difference is that NST is more targeted and geared toward achieving your goals.

## Who Can Benefit

NST can be beneficial for anyone experiencing:

- Chronic pain without an explained cause or an 'idiopathic' diagnosis
- Anxiety, depression
- Insomnia
- Sleep apnea
- Digestive issues
- Dysmenorrhea or painful PMS symptoms
- Pain associated with scoliosis
- Knee, hip and shoulder pain
- Migraines and headaches
- Tinnitus
- TMJ Dysfunction
- Vertigo
- Neck and low back pain

See [the conditions page](/conditions) for more detail on each one.

## What To Expect

During your appointment, you will receive an in depth intake, a postural analysis, and hands on treatment.

The postural analysis is a charting system that maps key points of structural alignment from your cranium to your feet, focused on what is relevant to your specific symptoms. The findings inform the hands-on treatment for that visit. Once the treatment is complete, a recommended treatment plan will be discussed that fits your goals.

Sessions are 60 minutes or 75 minutes. See the [pricing page](/pricing) for plan options.
